Chopin and Tellefsen in London

After the revolutionary turmoil of February 1848, Thomas Tellefsen travelled to his friends in Honfleur. On 27 April, he left for London, arriving at the beginning of May. He stayed in Britain until around 20 August. In a letter to his parents dated 8 June 1848, he boasted that he was being presented to aristocrats from all around Europe and the crème de la crème of diplomats who had fled Paris, and that from the musical point of view he had achieved notable success. During his stay in London, Tellefsen spent a lot of time with Chopin. The Polish composer lived at 48 Dover Street and his Norwegian pupil nearby, at 4 Panton Street, Haymarket. They met every day, as Tellefsen wrote: “Chopin is and will be my closest friend; our joint stay in London, where we were both strangers, brought us together in a special way and allowed us to get to know each other; I visited him every day and we breakfasted together.”
