England and Scotland (1849)

Tellefsen must have established good contacts in England, because between February and the end of June 1849 he was back working in London as a music teacher. Here he also met again Princess Marcelina Czartoryska, Jane Stirling and his namesake, Sir Thomas Dyke Acland. On 15 February, he wrote to his parents: “Since 1 February, I have been in London, where, praise be to God, everything is working out perfectly: I have so many students that I don’t have a moment to myself – from eight in the morning until eight in the night”. At the beginning of July, he moved to the Scottish highlands, where he first spent ten days with the Duke of Hamilton, probably giving lessons to the duke's grandchildren, as he noted in a letter to his parents of 15 July 1849: “The high season in London is over, so for the last four days I have been at the Duke of Hamilton’s, where I will remain for six more days, and then I am off to Glasgow, where I will spend eight days at the home of Miss Stirling's brother-in-law” (probably the Houston family of Johnstone Castle).
