The Rothschilds
The Rothschilds were among Tellefsen's best paying pupils, but also, as with Chopin, among his closest friends.
Nathaniel Rothschild, a descendant of the English branch of the family, settled in Paris and married Charlotte, a daughter of his uncle, James de Rothschild, founder of the Parisian banking house. Baroness Charlotte was a good friend of Tellefsen and supported him in many ways. During his final illness, he lived from time to time at her city residence at 33 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré.
Charlotte de Rothschild's brother, Alphonse, was also a student of Tellefsen and, together with his wife, his close friend. The composer visited them often at their city house at 2 rue de St. Florentin (near Place de la Concorde). Tellefsen dedicated several of his opuses to this family.
