Trasa Lesser Poland

Chopin passed through Małopolska (Lesser Poland) on his way to Vienna in the summer of 1829. He only ever visited Krakow once in his life. He travelled under the care of Romuald Hube and in the company of his friends Alfons Brandt, Marceli Celiński, Ignacy Maciejowski and Mieczysław Potocki. His extant entry in the Jagiellonian University visitors’ book tells us that he visited Collegium Maius and the University Library, with its valuable collections. Krakow made a strong impression on Chopin. During the nineteenth century, the city was Poland’s spiritual capital – a place where people came in search of their country’s past glory.

Apart from Krakow, Chopin went to the Wieliczka Salt Mine, where we again find his entry in the visitors’ book, and the Prądnik Valley, which turned out to be quite an eventful trip, as he managed to visit Ojców and Pieskowa Skała while he was there.
