Kalfaret
A steep hill in the south-east part of the city centre, through which passed the road to Haukeland and Landås. The name probably dates from the Middle Ages, when funeral processions climbed this hill on the way to St James’s Cemetery (known as Jerusalem). In the spring and the autumn, Edvard Grieg walked this way to school from the family’s summer base in Landås (six kilometres each way).
