Helsingör
Helsingör, the setting for Shakespeare’s Hamlet (as Elsinore). From here, you can sail across the Öresund strait to Sweden. Grieg stayed here briefly during his ten-day trip to northern Zealand in the company of his friends Benjamin Feddersen and Christian Horneman, in 1865. In his diary, on 8 August that year, he wrote about trekking 2.5 kilometres to Helsingör, where they savoured a fabulous and inexpensive dinner at the Hotel du Nord. From here, Grieg set off by train to Fredensborg, to visit the castle park.
