Composers / Fryderyk Chopin / Routes
Trasa Silesia
Chopin visited Lower Silesia several times. The first time was in 1826, when he went with his mother to Duszniki-Zdrój for treatment. While he was there, he gave two unscheduled charitable concerts. Chopin’s presence is still palpable and is evidenced by the long-running Duszniki-Zdrój Festival, one of the oldest festivals dedicated to Chopin in Poland.
Wrocław, the capital of Lower Silesia, is another city associated with Chopin. The composer went there at least four times. He first passed through on his way to and from the spa resort of Duszniki-Zdrój with his mother in late July / early August 1826. While he was there, he delivered several letters to friends that Józef Elsner had made in his youth. Chopin stopped in Wrocław again on the way back from Vienna in the autumn of 1829. He also passed through Wrocław with Tytus Woyciechowski when he left his homeland forever in November 1830. This time, he gave an unscheduled concert at the Great Redoubt Hall on 8 November.
