Composers / Arne Nordheim / Routes
Trasa Japan and USA
The multimedia work Poly-Poly, which Nordheim wrote for the Scandinavian pavilion at the Osaka World Exhibition in 1970, was an important experience with regard to later projects of a similar kind. Through Toru Takemitsu, he also received a commission for another work.
Commissions from foreign performers and orchestras helped popularise Nordheim’s music outside Norway and also contributed to the esteem and honours bestowed upon him back home. American commissions came from the cellist Mstislav Rostropovich and the conductor Zubin Mehta. (jc)
