13 Øvre Jegerborggate, Larvik

In 1935, the family moved to 13 Øvre Jegersborggate, where they remained until 1947.

In Larvik, Erling Nordheim worked at local institutions, including as a fireman. For that reason, he had his own alarm bell in his flat at 13 Øvre Jegerborggate.

Erling Nordheim was an accomplished violinist, and one of the first things the little Arne remembered was the image of his father walking around the room playing the violin. But Arne was most impressed by his singing. As a three-year-old, Arne had a serious accident: he fell into a bonfire on Midsummer's Night. The burns were extremely painful, so immediately after the accident his father cradled him in his arms for the whole night, singing one song after another.

When Arne grew up, his father made a small fiddle for him out of a plank from an old chest from the Borgar margarine factory, owned by Arne Stangebye in Fredrikstad. Little Arne immediately started to test out the instrument's sound, plucking the strings. He later considered it a sign of his interest in everything that sounded different. His father taught him enough to be able to play a popular melody, "På solen jeg ser" [I look at the sun] by Ole Bull.
