Dal Trozzo bookshop
‘In the old days, ul. Miodowa had a colonnaded row of shops much frequented by the fashionable set’, recalled Henryk Świątkowski in 1852 while marvelling at the growth of Warsaw during the period of the Kingdom of Poland (Congress Poland). These included several bookshops, one of which belonged to the famous bookseller, publisher and illustrations dealer Antonio Dal Trozzo, also known as Daltrozzo. There can little doubt that Fryderyk Chopin often went to Daltrozzo’s, as the works of the Music Conservatory, published as lithographs, were among the items sold there.
The poet Juliusz Słowacki, who had moved to Pac-Radziwiłł Palace from Leszno, also lived on ul. Miodowa for a time. That might be why took up a position nearby, in the office of the General Secretariat of the Treasury Commission on Plac Bankowy and then as an articled clerk at the General Inspection Directorate.
