Trasa Other cities in Europe
Grieg was a frequent traveller, visiting the greatest European cities, such as Leipzig and Rome. In 1902 and 1903, he travelled to Warsaw, at the invitation of the newly established Philharmonic Society, to conduct his works. In Vienna, he met Johannes Brahms, whom he invited to his home in Troldhaugen. From 1883, he often travelled to Amsterdam, appearing with the local orchestra, of which he was principal guest conductor. Grieg was also a frequent visitor to the British Isles. He appeared in many centres and was awarded honorary doctorates by both Cambridge and Oxford universities in recognition of his services to music. On account of his poor health, he often visited the spa in Karlovy Vary, highly popular during the nineteenth century. He also twice visited Prague, where he performed, conducted the local Philharmonic Orchestra and met the Czech composer Antonín Dvořák.
