Israel Music Institute
In 1996, Nordheim was invited to Tel Aviv by the Israel Music Institute and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra as a jurist for a young composers’ competition, alongside George Crumb and others. He stayed at the IPO’s guest hotel at 28 Shai Agnon.
The Israel Music Institute acts as a musical information centre. Besides collecting, publishing and promoting music by Israeli composers, it also organises competitions and events for children and youngsters. In connection with Nordheim’s stay, his works were presented at the Felicja Blumental Music Centre, 26 Bialik Street, and at the Mann Auditorium (now the Charles Bronfman Auditorium), the concert hall of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.
Nordheim also visited the Negba kibbutz, one of the largest and best known in the country, where he stayed with the composer Meir Mindel, and the Barzilai Medical Centre in Negev, in the south of Israel. (jc)
