Composers / Arne Nordheim / Places catalog
British Broadcasting Corporation
The BBC contributed significantly to the popularisation of Arne Nordheim’s music in the UK, recording numerous interviews with the composer and often broadcasting his music from British music festivals or new analogue or compact discs.
The programme of the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival has often featured music by Nordheim, and over the years many other Norwegian composers have been invited to the festival, regarded as a shop window for Norwegian contemporary music. Nordheim’s music has also been heard at the Aldeburgh Festival, including To one singing for tenor and harp, performed in 1976 by Peter Pears and harpist Ossian Ellis.
Nordheim has also been played at the Barbican Centre in London (Silk St., London EC2Y 8DS), which since 1982 has been the city’s largest cultural and conference centre, including the Barbican Hall, home to the London Symphony Orchestra and BBC Symphony Orchestra.
In 1971, Nordheim’s electronic works were presented in a concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall.
Doria for tenor and orchestra and Greening for orchestra were recorded by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Per Dreier and released on disc. (jc)
