National Library
The National Library stores books, newspapers, magazines, digitalised documents, films, video recordings, photographs, maps, audiobooks, music, printed notes, postcards, posters, fliers and theatricals. The Norwegian Music Collection, previously housed in the Observatory, is now part of the Library. The Music Information Centre, established in 1979, also belonged to the library, informing the world about Norwegian contemporary music. The MIC, which also had its own collection of sheet music editions of works by contemporary Norwegian composers issued by boutique publishers, was for years a meeting place for composers, who brought their works here for copying. In 2012, the MIC was merged with the joint-stock company Music Export Norway and set up the organisation Music Norway, which is located at Observatoriegaten 1b, while the sheet music archive and access to materials continued to be administered by the National Library.
Many of Arne Nordheim’s works can be ordered or borrowed in this section of the National Library.
