The Prix Italia is one of the oldest and most prestigious radio prizes in the world. The first edition of the competition was organised by Italian Radio (now RAI) in 1948. Norwegian Radio (NRK) submitted programmes to the competition almost every year. In 1970, it won with Finn Havrevold’s programme ‘En benk i parken’ [A bench in a park], produced by Paul Skoe, with music by Arne Nordheim. In September 1980, Nordheim received the Prix Italia for the radiophonic work Nedstigningen [Walking down]. (jc)
