Rotterdam
On 22 October 1976, the Concertgebouw Orchestra first performed Mi-parti, composed to its commission, in Rotterdam. That first performance was conducted by the composer in person. At its Amsterdam home, the Concertgebouw then repeated the work two days later. Thirteen years later, as part of the annual week devoted to a single living composer, a series of events with the participation of Witold Lutosławski were held in Rotterdam. From Monday 12 November 1989, for a whole week, he met with students and with the press and took part in concerts with his chamber and orchestra music. On the Friday, the hero of the event personally led a concert, introducing the Rotterdam audience to his earliest work, the Symphonic Variations, and his latest, the Third Symphony.
