Herkulessaal
Lutosławski conducted in Munich many times, and during the last decade of his life he came here regularly, with never more than two years between visits, invited by both the Philharmonic and the Radio Orchestra. In January 1986, he appeared with the Bayerische Rundfunk at the Herkulessaal in a programme featuring three concert works that differed entirely in terms of style and expression: the folk-style Dance Preludes, the dramatic Cello Concerto and the Double Concerto, bordering on the grotesque. They were recorded onto a disc that met with the acclaim of the critics writing for the American magazine Ovation, thanks to which it was soon distinguished with the ‘bubbly’ prize funded by Mumm Champagne.
