Florence

In December 1991, Witold Lutosławski travelled to Florence to conduct a concert of his music. The programme was to feature the Piano Concerto, with Ewa Pobłocka engaged to perform the solo part. ‘When I arrived for the first rehearsal, it turned out that it was cancelled, because the orchestra had gone on strike – recalled the soloist. – The reason was that the temperature in the concert hall was too low’. So instead of the rehearsal, the conductor and the pianist went for a walk around the city together.
