Aleksander Rożniecki
Aleksander Rożniecki (1771–1849) took part in the Kościuszko Uprising (1794), was a legionnaire on the staff of Gen. Jean Victor Moreau and a Squadron Master in the Danube Legion in Metz. He was made a Brig. Gen. in the Duchy of Warsaw Army by Napoleon Bonaparte and took part in Prince Józef Poniatowski’s 1812 and 1813 campaigns. Rożniecki was appointed head of the gendarmerie from 1813 on the orders of Grand Duke Konstantin. He exercised control over the secret police and the secret services charged with espionage and informants. In 1821, he was made President of the Warsaw Theatre Directorate. After being charged with years of fraud, Rożniecki managed to flee to Russia during the night of 30 November 1830.
