Jan Nepomucen Janowski
Jan Nepomucen Janowski (1803–1888) was a political activist who took part in the November Uprising, publicist, member of the Patriotic Society and co-founder of the Polish Democratic Society. Andrzej Walicki describes him as one of the most exemplary figures of his generation because of his anti-clerical and anti-aristocratic views and his role in helping to shape one of the contemporary paradigms of nationalist thought. Of Janowski’s many books and publications (politically committed and published in Polish and French), the Notatki autobiograficzne 1803–1853 [Autobiographical Notes 1803-1853], only published in the mid-20th century, are of historical merit.
