Dominik Dziewanowski
Dominik Dziewanowski (1811–1881) was a school friend of Chopin who boarded with Mikołaj and Justyna Chopin in Kazimierz Palace. Chopin spent his 1824 and 1825 holidays on the Dziewanowskis’ family estate in Szafarnia (his letters to his family in Warsaw took the form of a daily paper dubbed the ‘Kurier Szafarski’). Dziewanowski became a highly respected lawyer after his law and philosophy studies (mathematical sciences) at the Royal Warsaw University, which he completed in Berlin after the November Uprising (in which he took part) was put down. He also made a lot of civic contributions as a member of various associations and as an active participant in patriotic and political life. His daughter Cecylia married Mateusz Ciechomski, brother of Ludwik Ciechomski, who married Chopin’s niece Ludwika Jędrzejewicz.
