Ludwik Osiński
Ludwik Osiński (1775–1838) was a theatre director, translator, critic and Warsaw University professor. Osiński moved to Warsaw around 1800. He was one of the founders and first members of the Royal Warsaw Society of Friends of Learning. He was editor of ‘Pamiętnik Warszawski’ [Warsaw Journal] in 1809-1810 and director of the National Theatre (after his father-in-law Wojciech Bogusławski) from 1814. He was formally appointed director again in 1827, although Gen. Aleksander Rożniecki exercised de facto control during this time. Osiński was a much loved and respected educator. Chopin probably attended his lectures on comparative literature at Warsaw University.
