Jan Dekert
Jan Dekert (1786–1861) was the Auxiliary Bishop of Warsaw (from 1858) and the parish priest at St. Karol Boromeusz Church, Warsaw. Dekert was the son of Warsaw mayor Jan Dekert, who died soon after he was born, and Antonina Dekert née Bilikowska. The orphaned Dekert was cared for by prominent and influential Poles by virtue of his father’s service. Dekert became a charge of Mikołaj Chopin when he was eight and his relationship with the family remained close and multifaceted. He officiated at the wedding of Izabella Chopin and Antoni Barciński, baptised the children of Ludwika Jędrzejewicz née Chopin, and conducted the funeral services of Kalasanty Jędrzejewicz, Mikołaj Chopin and Justyna Chopin.
