George Sand
George Sand (1804–1876) – real name Aurore Dudevant, née Dupin. French writer, playwright and essayist, one of the most celebrated figures of her day. From 1838 to 1847, companion of Fryderyk Chopin. She was famed not just as the author of more than seventy novels, novellas and plays, but also as a liberated woman who broke with social conventions. Besides adopting a male name, she also dressed like a man and held bold, uncompromising views. Among her many liaisons, the one with Chopin was one of the longest and most important.
