Alphonse de Rothschild
Alphonse de Rothschild (1827–1905) – son of James Mayer and Betty de Rothschild, one of the heirs to the banking and wine empire of the French branch of the Rothschild family. Alphonse was also a devotee of horse racing and a passionate art collector, with a particular fondness for Danish and Islamic art. In 1885, he became a member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts. He left almost 2000 works to various museums.
