Israel Gottlieb Wernicke
Israel Gottlieb Wernicke (1755–1836) – Norwegian-Danish composer and dulcimer player. As a pupil of Johann Philipp Kirnberger, he was trained in the Bachian tradition. Born in Bergen, Wernicke spent many years in Copenhagen, where his posts included leader of the orchestra of the Royal Danish Theatre. After some time, he moved to Kolding, concentrating on music theory and teaching. His compositional oeuvre is dominated by canons and works for keyboard instruments.
