Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach
Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714–1788) – composer and virtuoso, son of Johann Sebastian Bach and his first wife Maria Barbara. The most important composer in Protestant Germany of the second half of the eighteenth century, C. P. E. Bach was an eminent representative of the style gallant, a composer of harpsichord sonatas (he exerted a key influence on the development of sonata form), chamber, symphonic and vocal music, and author of a highly esteemed and much-read treatise of the art of playing keyboard instruments.
