François Delsarte
François Delsarte (1811–1871) – French tenor and singing teacher, a pupil of Choron, who took repertoire from early music. Delsarte’s singing method combined vocal artistry, declamation and bodily expression: singers were taught to convey the emotions inscribed in the text through their facial expressions.
