Moritz Hauptmann
Moritz Hauptmann (1792–1868) – a German composer, theorist and teacher at the Leipzig Conservatory. Initially, he studied violin with Louis Spohr. With time, he earned renown as a composer and music theorist. In 1842, he took up the post of cantor at the Thomasschuler in Leipzig and a year later became a teacher in music theory and composition at the Leipzig Conservatory. His pupils included Hans von Bülow, Ferdinand David and Joseph Joachim. He was one of the founder members of the Bach-Gesellschaft (1850).
