Bertel Thorvaldsen
Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770–1844) – a Danish sculptor of Icelandic origins, a leading representative of classicism. After studying in Copenhagen, in 1797 he left for Rome on a several-year grant. His works are dominated by mythological, historical and religious themes. In Poland, he is known for such works as the monuments to Copernicus and Prince Józef Poniatowski in Warsaw.
