Peter Andreas Munch
Peter Andreas Munch (1810–1863) – a Norwegian historian. One of his most important works is the eight-volume Det norske Folks Historie [History of the Norwegian people], in which he presented the history of Norway from ancient times to 1397. His scholarly interests also included archaeology, geography, ethnography and linguistics. In 1857, he received a grant enabling him to carry out research in Roman archives (1859–1861; he was one of the first non-Catholics to gain consent to enter the Vatican archives).
