Holger Simon Paulli
Holger Simon Paulli (1810–1891) – a Danish conductor, violinist and composer. From 1863 to 1883, he was conductor of the Royal Danish Orchestra (Det Kongelige Kapel). In 1866, he became director of the Copenhagen Conservatory (jointly with Niels Gade and Johan Peter Emilius Hartmann). He helped popularise the output of Richard Wagner in Denmark, staging such works as Lohengrin and Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. He conducted the Royal Danish Orchestra in the world premiere of Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor (1869). He composed ballets, operas, overtures and works for violin.
